Digital Yacht Pilot
Digital Yacht GS50
January 2009

Digital Yacht – the Bristol-based own-brand spin-off from the successful Marine Electronic Services  -- has introduced its own autopilot.

Based on the Australian Coursemaster CM85, the Digital Yacht GS50 is a below-deck autopilot suitable for almost any boat from about 6 to 40 metres in length or up to about 130 tons displacement.

Priced at just under £1300, the control system includes a 110mm square control unit, a central processor, rate gyro, and rudder angle transducer. A selection of hydraulic pumps and linear drives are available at prices starting from £230, but Nick Heyes – the boss of Digital Yacht and MES – tells me that he reckons the GS50’s 40-amp output will make it particularly useful for boat-owners who are finding it difficult to get spares and service for their old Cetrek, Neco, and Wagner systems.
