Garmin black-box radio
Garmin, who announced
their return to the VHF market with a couple of
new radios last winter, will be introducing a third member of the
family at
Southampton Boat Show. Available in two versions – with or without an
integral
AIS receiver – the new flagship unit is a black-box radio whose
transceiver
unit can be controlled by any of up to three full-function remote
microphones.
As well as the almost
obligatory DSC functions, the new unit offers a
switchable ATIS function to conform to the new regulations on European
inland
waterways, an intercom facility, and an unusual “replay” feature that
allows
the last 90 seconds of any incoming message to be replayed at the touch
of a
button.
