A wider view from Raymarine
January 2009Raymarine widescreens

Raymarine have at last taken time out from developing ever more stratospheric glass bridge systems, (and from sticking their labels onto other people’s television aerials) to give their mainstream C-series a face-lift.

Far more significant than cosmetic changes to the shape of the buttons and the layout of the control panel, are that the new displays are in widescreen format, and  have what the stand staff described to me as a “limited” networking ability.  Networking means that pairs of the new C-series can talk to each other, while the widescreen displays make split-screen operation much more practical.

Together, these two features make the new C- series a practical proposition for small and medium-sized flybridge boats, on which a pair of 14-inch screens –  one upstairs and one down – would provide four bigger and better-proportioned windows  than four networked E80 displays, for less money.

The new C-series will be available from next month, in three sizes, from the 9-inch C90W to the 14-inch C14W, with list prices from £1834.25 to £3444.25, and all with built-in GPS and pre-loaded Navionics cartography.
